JEWELRY CARE GUIDE

JEWELRY CARE INSTRUCTIONS

Keeping your jewelry safe: We highly recommend that customers remove jewelry before going to bed, showering, washing hands, using hand sanitizer, performing household or outdoor cleaning, or participating in any physical activities. Exposure to certain harsh chemicals or environments will result in compromising the integrity of your jewelry. This includes, but is not limited to the following: lotions, perspiration, perfumes, cleaning agents, chlorine, salt water, and silver polish or silver polishing cloths. Never use an ultrasonic cleaner with any of our jewelry products, and avoid contact with chemicals, as it may remove the cyanoacrylates used in the fabrication of some of our jewelry products.

General Good Practices:

  • Remove your pieces before performing manual tasks, especially those with sandpaper or heavy metal tools that may scratch or break your jewelry.

  • Lotion is extremely harmful to all metal jewelry, and diminishes its luster, leading to rapid tarnishing of precious metals.

  • Take off your jewelry before applying lotion, wipe or wash excess lotion off. Then you can put your jewelry back on without excess build up.

  • Don’t go to sleep wearing bracelets, earrings, pendants or necklaces.

  • Put your pieces on after applying makeup.

  • Don't wear your pieces in swimming pools and spas.

  • Remove your jewelry before bathing.

  • Don’t play contact sports while wearing your pieces.

  • When not wearing, store your jewelry inside of a container, such as a jewelry box, that is cool, free of moisture, and enclosed.

Cleaning Your Jewelry:

  • Inspect your piece regularly; It is easy to keep jewelry looking its best if you pay attention.

  • Polish your piece with your jewelry cleaning cloth or a microfiber cloth daily. If you do not have either of those, a paper towel should do the trick.

  • If soiled, use mild soap, warm water, and a soft toothbrush to wash your jewelry.

  • Never use heat to dry your jewelry.

  • Avoid washing your piece if it is damaged.

GEMSTONE CARE

Use your jewelry cleaning cloth or a paper towel to clean and ensure your gems maintain their high polish and integrity. If soiled, use mild soap and warm water to clean your gems. Regardless of hardness, all natural gemstones are inherently brittle and may chip, scratch, dull or shatter from mishandling. Be mindful of metal, stone, tile, and cement surfaces, such as door knobs, counter tops, shelving, flooring and other hard objects. Some gemstones, such as rose quartz and amethyst, can fade in color due to prolonged exposure to sunlight.

925 STERLING SILVER & 999 FINE SILVER CARE

All silver will tarnish over time, but accelerates when it comes into contact with agents such as natural or environmental oils, perfume, salty air, sulfur, skin creams, hairspray, chlorine and acidic skin ph. The amount of tarnishing (oxidation) that occurs is dependent on the skin and care habits of the wearer. Tarnishing is natural; To prevent tarnishing/oxidation, all products should be cleaned using a jewelry cleaning cloth or paper towel daily, or at a minimum, each time your jewelry is worn. A gentle but firm cleaning in this manner can revive the luster of silver jewelry if signs of tarnishing are recognized early enough. Silver is a soft precious metal and can show marks or blemishes if worn without care.

RHODIUM & 22K YELLOW GOLD CARE

Gold & Rhodium will not tarnish but over time chemicals such as lotion, perfume, oil, moisture, wear and soil may alter its appearance. We recommend cleaning with a jewelry cleaning cloth or washing in warm soapy water; rinse and dry thoroughly. Yellow Gold can show marks or blemishes if worn without care. Rhodium is a hard metal but the plating can be worn down over time if not handled properly.

RING CARE

All of our band materials are renowned for their physical properties, such as strength and toughness. However, regardless of how hard and durable these materials are, they can be scratched or broken; Titanium can be bent, ceramic can shatter, and carbon fiber can splinter. Tungsten-Carbide is by far the most resistant to wear and tear. We recommend cleaning all of our rings with a jewelry cleaning cloth or a paper towel. If soiled, wash in warm soapy water, and rinse and dry thoroughly.

TIE CLIP CARE

Metal & wood tie clips should be cleaned with your jewelry cleaning cloth or a paper towel. Halfwood Tie Clips have been varnished with Danish oil for longevity and protection from most natural elements. Avoid contact with any chemicals or irritants, and never soak in water. Acrylic coating protects the Metal Tie Clip’s color, finish and base metal components, however, it can be scratched if not handled properly. Halfwood Tie Clips will naturally deepen or fade in color from sunlight exposure depending on the type of hardwood.
